Hi,

My laptop is incredibly old and incredibly slow! most of my space is taken up by my photos and music - what do you recommend? Would an external drive help or can I put it all on a USB?

Thanks  Wink

Hi there,
It's a good idea to have a backup of everything onto a seperate hard drive....
What i would suggest is get the biggest external hard drive that you can afford, having said that being as you say that your laptop is old, i would suggest that you look into getting either a USB2 or Firewire card for the laptop first as you probably have the older USB1 ports which are pretty slow...Once you have the card...either (USB2/Firewire) you then know which hard drive to look out for relative to the ports on the card....if that makes sense!

Hi,

I have a toshiba laptop which I think came off the arc!! I've got lots of photos and music on it and am worried that if it blows up then I'll lose everything! What would you recommend? I'm thinking of getting an external drive to put everything on.

Thanks

Hello deedee
Sorry for the delay in replying to your post!
There are many things that can cause a PC to run really slowly...
Do you know how old your PC is? Do you know which CPU it has in it? Do you know how much RAM you have installed?

Click start/all programs/accessories/system tools/system information
In the window that opens copy and paste what it lists in the right hand window and post it back here or mail it to us using our form here and we can tell you if you should look at adding more RAM or indeed purchasing a new machine....Transferring all the files off can be a little confusing....Microsoft created a tool that you can use to do it if you know your way around your PC ok....Look here for a detailed guide on how to do it http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb457074.aspx If this looks a bit daunting...Let us do it for you!

Hope this helps!

Hi,

I need some help to decide what to do about replacing my laptop - the memory is quite small therefore the machine does run quite slowly, it takes about 10 minutes to start up!! Can this be replaced easily or is it easier to get a newer modern laptop? If so, how easy is it to get all of my pictures/music off my existing machine and upload it on to the new?

look forward to hearing from you

Hi there,
I take it that you mean you liked the default home page after installing firefox?
In that case your home page was probably the google home page???
In your address bar (the one at the top) type: http://www.google.co.uk/
When the google page opens click tools (at the top of the page) then on the sub menu that opens click options....where it says home page...click the button that says...use current page....that will set your home page back to the default google search page....click the home button or close and re-open firefox to test  Wink
